Wheel Hub: Service and Repair
CAUTION
^ Since the front wheel bearing cannot be adjusted, the front axle wheel hub retainer and washer must not be backed off after reaching the required torque of 300-400 Nm (221-295 ft. lbs.) during installation.
^ The front axle wheel hub retainer MUST be replaced with a NEW front axle wheel hub retainer whenever the front axle wheel hub retainer is backed off or removed. NEVER reuse the front axle wheel hub retainer.
^ Impact-type tools must NOT be used to tighten the front axle wheel hub retainer or bearing damage will result.
REMOVAL
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove front hub cap grease seal from wheel hub and discard.
4. Remove two bolts from disc brake caliper assembly.
CAUTION: Do not let disc brake caliper assembly hang by the front brake hose.
5. Remove disc brake caliper assembly and suspend with wire.
6. Remove front disc brake rotor. Remove factory push-on nuts, if installed.
7. Remove front axle wheel hub retainer and DISCARD.
8. Remove wheel hub and bearing. If assembly cannot be removed by hand, use Front Hub Remover/Replacer T81P-1104-C.
INSTALLATION
1. Install wheel hub bearing assembly.
2. Install front axle wheel hub retainer and tighten to 300-400 Nm (221-295 ft. lbs.).
3. Install front disc brake rotor and push on nuts.
4. Install new front hub cap grease seal cap. Use appropriate tool so as not to damage or distort front hub cap grease seal.
5. Position disc brake caliper assembly on front wheel spindle.
6. Install brake caliper retaining bolts. Tighten to 100-130 Nm (74-95 ft. lbs.).
7. Install wheel and tire assembly. Tighten lug nuts to 115-142 Nm (85-104 ft. lbs.).
8. Lower vehicle.
