Caster and Camber
DESCRIPTION
Front
Front caster adjustment is not a separate procedure on this vehicle. Front caster should fall within specification when the front camber is adjusted.
Rear
The rear caster is not adjustable, but it should be checked as a possible cause of suspension complaints.
PRECHECKS
Be sure the tires are correctly and uniformly inflated and any abnormal loads are removed from the vehicle.
DIAGNOSIS
If suspension components are in good condition, check the vehicle body for distortion at suspension mounting points due to collision damage, curb or pothole impacts, improper hoisting, etc. Generally, front wheel drive cars are not sensitive to caster differences from side to side that are less than one degree.
PROCEDURES
NOTE: The front shock absorber upper mounting bracket studs on the front spring and shock are offset. Camber is adjusted by rotating the front shock absorber upper mounting bracket to one of the following 3 positions:
Check camber against specifications. If necessary set the camber as follows:
1. Raise the car so the front suspension is unloaded.
2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
3. Loosen and remove the front shock absorber upper mounting bracket nuts.
4. Lower the front spring and shock and rotate the front shock absorber upper mounting bracket to the desired position.
5. Reinstall the front spring and shock.
6. Install and tighten the front shock absorber upper mounting bracket nuts.
7. Tighten the front shock absorber upper mounting bracket nuts to 46-63 Nm (34-46 ft. lbs.).
8. Ensure that camber was set correctly.
