Compressor Clutch: Service and Repair
Tools Required:J 7624 Clutch Drive Plate Holder
J 5403 Internal Snap Ring Pliers
Remove or Disconnect
1. Compressor from vehicle.
Description:
2. Pressure plate bolt from drive shaft, using J 7624 and socket.
3. Pressure plate from drive shaft.
Description:
4. Shim(s) from pressure plate.
Description:
5. Clutch pulley snap ring, using J 5403 snap ring pliers.
Description:
6. Clutch pulley from compressor, using plastic hammer.
IMPORTANT: Be careful not to damage the clutch pulley when tapping off pulley.
Description:
7. Clutch coil lead wires from compressor.
Description:
8. Clutch coil snap ring, using snap ring pliers.
Description:
9. Clutch coil from compressor.
Inspect
^ Pressure plate for excessive wear and scoring. Replace if necessary.
^ Clutch pulley for excessive wear and scoring. Replace if necessary.
Install or Connect
1. Clutch coil to compressor; secure with new snap ring (beveled side facing up), using J 5403.
2. Clutch coil lead wires to compressor.
3. Clutch pulley to compressor; secure with new snap ring (beveled side facing up), using J 5403.
4. Pressure plate to compressor drive shaft.
Adjust
^ Clearance between the clutch pulley and pressure plate. If the clearance is not within specifications, alter the number of shims to obtain proper clearance.
-- Clearance: 0.354).65 mm (0.01-0.O25 inch)
Description:
5. Pressure plate bolt to drive shaft, using J 7624. Tighten Pressure plate bolt to 13 Nm (115 lb. in.).
6. Compressor to vehicle. Refer to Air Conditioning.
