Safety Recall: Odyssey EX Instrument Panel Lighting
(Supersedes 00-071 dated October 3, 2000)

BACKGROUND

Because of a component failure in the driver's side multiplex control unit, the instrument panel lighting may stop working.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION





All owners of affected vehicles will be mailed a notification of this recall campaign. An example of the customer letter is shown.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the driver's side multiplex control unit.

P/N 38800-S0X-A22, H/C 6075576





WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio system and, if necessary, the anti-theft code for the navigation system. Write down the customer's radio station presets.

2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

3. Remove the door sill molding and the kick panel.





4. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the front of the driver's underdash fuse/relay box. Remove the fuse/relay box mounting nut. Carefully pull the fuse/relay box away from the body.





5. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the back of the fuse/relay box. Remove the box from the vehicle.





6. Pry away the four tabs, then use a flat-tip screwdriver to remove the multiplex control unit from the fuse/relay box.

7. Install the new multiplex control unit.

8. Reinstall the fuse/relay box in the vehicle. Reconnect the electrical connectors.

9. Install all removed parts.

10. Reconnect the battery.

11. Enter the anti-theft code(s). Enter the customer's radio station presets. Set the clock.

12. With Navigation System: Allow the navigation system to reinitialize. Refer to service bulletin 99-070, 2000-01 Odyssey: PDI of the Navigation System, filed under PDI.





13. Center-punch a completion mark above the sixth character (1) of the engine compartment VIN.
