CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATION PROCEDURE
This bulletin is intended to clarify the operation of the Elantra cruise control system. To activate the cruise control system properly, the following steps should be followed:
1. Push the main cruise control switch on the dash panel. The indicator light in the switch will illuminate.
2. Accelerate to the desired cruising speed.
3. Push the control switch at the end of the windshield wiper control lever inward toward the "SET (COAST)" label until the audible alarm tone is heard, indicating the cruise mechanism has been activated.
4. A momentary delay of approximately 3 seconds occurs before the cruise control actuator begins throttle control and may be accompanied by a slight drop in vehicle speed.
NOTE:
This momentary delay is not indicative of a faulty cruise control system, but is normal operation of the Elantra's electronic cruise control system. If the delay is abnormally long, check to make sure there is not excessive slack in the accelerator cable.
Additional information regarding the cruise control system can be found in the Shop Manual on pages 27-38 through 27-55, and pages 30 through 33 of the appendix.
