Date: OCTOBER, 2000
Model: 2001 SONATA
Subject:
2001 SONATA 2.4L TCM REPROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS CAMPAIGN 041
DESCRIPTION:
Some 2001 Model Year Sonatas with 2.4L DOHC engines and automatic transaxles were produced with Transaxle Control Modules (TCM) that do not properly diagnose and display diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) for some functions.
This condition results in the following diagnostic trouble code errors when diagnosing the TCM using the Hi-Scan.
^ No diagnostic trouble codes are set if either pulse generator A or B malfunction.
^ If the vehicle speed sensor malfunctions, the TCM incorrectly sets DTC P1630 (communication error), instead of P0500 (vehicle speed sensor).
Correct the above condition by replacing the current TCM program using the Hi-Scan and the reprogramming procedure in this bulletin.
VEHICLES AFFECTED:
Model: Sonata vehicles with 2.4L DOHC engines and automatic transaxles.

3. Do not start the engine during reprogramming.
