Service Procedure

Replace the Brake Lamp Switch as follows.

M45 Procedure

CAUTION:
Use suitable covers to protect upholstery, carpet, paint, etc. when performing this procedure.

1. Remove the Instrument Panel Lower Cover as follows:





a. Remove the two Bolts that secure the Front Hood Release Handle (see Figure 1).

^ Reposition the Front Hood Release Handle down and out of the way.





b. Remove the Ignition Key Finisher using a Plastic Pry Tool (see Figure 2).





c. Remove the RH Instrument Panel Mounting Screw (see Figure 3).





d. Remove the Instrument Panel Lower Cover by pulling out (towards the rear of the vehicle). See Figure 4.

^ Disconnect all wire harness connectors from the panel.

^ Disconnect the A/C Harness Connector and Vent Tube from the panel (if applicable).





2. Remove two bolts and remove the Lower Knee Protector (see Figure 5).





3. Remove and discard the old Brake Lamp Switch as follows:

a. Turn the switch counter-clockwise 45 degrees.

b. Pull the switch rearward.

4. Install the new Brake Lamp Switch in the reverse order the old one was removed.

NOTE:
You'll be performing a Brake Lamp Switch clearance check/adjustment next.

5. Use a Feeler Gauge (or other suitable tool) to check the clearance between the Pedal Rubber Stopper and the threaded end of the Brake Lamp Switch (see Figure 7). Make sure it is within the clearance specification shown.

Clearance specification 0.74 - 1.96 mm (.029 - .077 inches)

If the clearance does NOT fall within this specification adjust the Switch as follows:

a. Turn the Switch counter-clockwise 45 degrees to release it from the support bracket.

b. Move the Switch towards the pedal or away from the pedal until the clearance is within specification.

c. Turn the Switch clockwise 45 degrees so that it is fully locked into position.

6. Confirm the brake lamps operate properly.

7. Re-install the Lower Knee Protector.

8. Re-install the Instrument Panel Lower Cover making sure:

^ All wire harness connectors are properly re-connected.

^ The ATC Harness Connector and Vent Tube are re-connected. The Front Hood Release Handle is re-installed.

Q45 Procedure

CAUTION:
Use suitable covers to protect upholstery, carpet, paint, etc. when performing this procedure.

1. Remove the Instrument Panel Lower Cover as follows:





a. Remove the two Bolts that secure the Front Hood Release Handle (see Figure 8).

^ Reposition the Front Hood Release Handle down and out of the way.





b. Remove the Ignition Key Finisher using a Plastic Pry Tool (see Figure 9).





c. Remove the RH Instrument Panel Mounting Screws (see Figure 10).





d. Remove the LH Finisher using a Plastic Pry Tool (see Figure 11).





e. Remove the LH Instrument Panel Mounting Screws (see Figure 12).





f. Remove the Instrument Panel Lower Cover by pulling out (towards the rear of the vehicle). See Figure 13.

^ Disconnect all wire harness connectors from the panel.

^ Disconnect the A/C Harness Connector and Vent Tube from the panel (if applicable).





2. Remove two bolts and remove the Lower Knee Protector (see Figure 14).

3. Remove and discard the old Brake Lamp Switch as follows:

a. Turn the switch counter-clockwise 45 degrees.

b. Pull the switch rearward.

4. Install the new Brake Lamp Switch in the reverse order the old one was removed.

NOTE:
You'll be performing a Brake Lamp Switch clearance check/adjustment next.

5. Use a Feeler Gauge (or other suitable tool) to check the clearance between the Pedal Rubber Stopper and the threaded end of the Brake Lamp Switch (see Figure 16). Make sure it is within the clearance specification shown.

Clearance specification 0.74 - 1.96 mm (.029 - .077 inches)

If the clearance does NOT fall within this specification adjust the Switch as follows:

a. Turn the Switch counter-clockwise 45 degrees to release it from the support bracket.

b. Move the Switch towards the pedal or away from the pedal until the clearance is within specification.

c. Turn the Switch clockwise 45 degrees so that it is fully locked into position.

6. Confirm the brake lamps operate properly.

7. Re-install the Lower Knee Protector.

8. Re-install the Instrument Lower Panel making sure:

^ All wire harness connectors are properly re-connected.

^ The ATC Harness Connector and Vent Tube are re-connected. The Front Hood Release Handle is re-installed.
