Crankshaft Seal Retainer: Service and Repair






Crankshaft Main Bearing Carrier
This is a "Trustmark Authoring Standards (TAS) Repair Procedure"
- TAS style procedures can be identified by steps that have no accompanying step text and the magenta color of the electrical connectors and fasteners such as nuts, bolts, clamps or clips.

Removal

WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.
1 Raise and support the vehicle.





WARNING: Avoid skin contact with the specified material.

CAUTION: Hot fluid.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

Torque to: 38 Nm
Remove and discard the sealing washer.

Special Service Tool




Torx Socket, Accessory Drive Pulley, 303-1284

Special Service Tool




Aligner, Timing Cover, 303-1278

Torque to: 60 Nm





Torque to: 65 Nm

NOTE:

If the locking pin on the special tool is disengaged, the crankshaft can be rotated.

Torque to: 10 Nm





Torque to: 47 Nm





Torque to: 10 Nm





CAUTION: Make sure that the torque converter remains in the transmission.

NOTE:

Torque to: 47 Nm
2 Mount the engine to an engine stand.





Torque to: 10 Nm





Torque to: 10 Nm





Torque to: 48 Nm









Torque to: 10 Nm





Torque to: 10 Nm

Make sure that all traces of the old sealant are removed from the mating faces.
M7: 17 Nm
M10: 45 Nm





CAUTION: Discard the seal.

Torque to: 17 Nm

Remove the oil pump pivot pin.
Special Service Tool




Remover, Oil Pump Pin, 303-1280













Installation










CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Apply a 2.5mm bead of sealant STC50550 (Loctite 5900) to the areas shown.





CAUTION: Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.

Step 1: 5 Nm

Step 2: 30 Nm





CAUTION: Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.

Step 1: 5 Nm

Step 2: 25 Nm





CAUTION: Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.

Torque to: 105 degree





Torque to: 25 Nm





Torque to: 10 Nm





Torque to: 10 Nm




Install the pin.
Apply light pressure to the pump body.
Torque to: 17 Nm




Apply light pressure to the pump body.
Torque to: 10 Nm
Measure the backlash
For additional information, refer to Specifications Engine
If necessary, repeat the above procedure.





CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Apply a 2.5mm bead of sealant STC50550 (Loctite 5900) to the areas shown.

CAUTION: Make sure that new sealing washers are installed.
Fill the engine with the recommended oil to the correct level.
