Deceleration Control System
PREPARATIONBefore checking this system, follow these directions:
Switch off all accessories.
Tachometer Connection:
Connect a tachometer to the check connector.
Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
DASHPOT
1. Open the throttle valve fully, then push the dashpot rod with a finger and check that it goes into the dashpot slowly.
Dashpot Plunger Test:
2. Release the rod and check that it comes out quickly.
3. Replace, if necessary.
4. Warm up the engine and run it at idle.
5. Connect a tachometer, and increase the engine speed to 4,000 rpm.
Relationship Between Dashpot And Throttle Lever:
6. Slowly decrease the engine speed and check that the lever touches the dashpot at 3,500±300 rpm.
7. If not as specified, loosen the locknut and turn the dashpot to adjust.
FUEL CUT SYSTEM
Tester Connection:
1. Connect the Engine Signal Monitor (SST Mazda Part# 49 9200 162) using the adapter harness (Mazda Part# 49 9200 163) between the wiring harness and the engine control unit.
2. Set 3C, 3E, and 3F positions on the SST to check the injectors.
SELECTOR SWITCH INJECTORS
3C No. 3 and No. 4
3E No. 1 and No. 2
3F No. 5 and No. 6
Test Meter -- Both Lamps Lit:
3. Check that both indicator lamps flash at idle.
4. Increase the engine speed to 4,000 rpm, then suddenly decrease it.
Test Meter -- Red Lamp Lit:
5. Check that only the red indicator lamp illuminates during deceleration.
