To reduce CO, HC, and NOx emissions, the three way catalytic converter is used on these vehicles. The catalytic converter oxidizes CO and HC and reduces NOx by a chemical reaction. The active materials in the converter are platinum and rhodium and it has a volume of 1500 cc (91.5 ci).
If the fuel system maintains an optimum air fuel ratio, with oxidation of CO content and HC, the catalytic converter reduces the emission of NOx. The exhaust emitted by the car to the atmosphere consists mainly of CO2, H2O, and pure nitrogen.
