Timing Belt Removal
TIMING BELT REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise front of vehicle with a suitable jack.
3. Remove the right front tire.
4. Remove the splash shield (RH).
5. Remove the drive belt.
6. Remove the water pump pulley.
7. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
8. Remove the high-tension leads.
9. Remove the cylinder head cover.
10. Remove the dipstick and pipe stay.
11. Remove the upper timing belt cover.
12. Remove the No.3 engine mount bracket.
(1) Support the engine by using the SST 49 G017 5A0.
(2) Remove the the No.3 engine mount bracket.
13. Remove the lower and middle timing belt cover.
14. Remove the pulley boss.
Note: (If reusing timing belt) Mark the timing belt rotation on the belt for proper reinstallation.
(1) Using the SST 49 D011 102, remove the pulley lock bolt.
(2) Remove the pulley boss.
15. Remove the timing belt.
(1) Loosen the tensioner pulley lock bolt.
(2) Pull the tensioner pulley in the direction of the arrow to reduce tension of the timing belt, and remove the belt.
Caution: The following will damage the belt and shorten its life; Forcefully twisting it, turning it inside out, or allowing oil or grease on it.
16. Remove the idler pulley.
17. Remove the tensioner pulley, tensioner spring.
