SEIZED THREE-WAY CATALYST BOLT STUDS

APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS

1995 RX-7 with a VIN of JM1FD33**S0400004 and lower.

DESCRIPTION

The three-way catalyst bolt(s) may seize and break when removing the catalyst. Stud bolt seizure/breakage is caused by exhaust heat and results in catalyst replacement.

To correct this concern, the bolts are changed from stud bolts to flange bolts. Breaking the bolt no longer requires catalyst replacement. If the flange bolt breaks during removal, the bolt is replaceable.

REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

1. Remove the catalyst.





2. Grind away the weld holding the flange bolt in place. Refer to the illustration.

3. Replace the flange bolt.

NOTE:
Re-welding is not necessary.
