Pinpoint Test 20


Flowchart No. 20 Symptom Even if the ignition key is removed from the ignition switch, ignition key reminder warning alarm will sound when any door is opened

Possible cause
^ Damaged CPU
^ Damaged key reminder switch
^ Damaged interior light
^ Damaged door switch
^ Short circuit in wiring harness

Step 1
1. Remove the front side trim.
2. Remove the joint box attaching bolt and screw.
3. Remove the CPU from the joint box.
4. Make sure the ignition key is removed from the ignition switch and the door is opened.

Voltmeter Connection:

5. Measure the voltage at terminal 11 of the CPU connector on the joint box.

Step 2
1. Remove the column cover. (Refer to the 1997 626/MX-6 Workshop Manual, section S.)
2. Disconnect the key reminder switch connector.

Ohmmeter Connection:




Reference:





3. Check for continuity between the terminals of the key reminder switch.
4. If correct, repair the wiring harness (Key reminder switch-CPU).
5. If not as specified, replace the steering lock.

Step 3
1. Leave the ignition key in the ignition switch and close all doors.

Voltmeter Connection:

2. Measure the voltage at terminal 1E of the CPU connector on the joint box.

Step 4
1. Make sure the interior light is off.

Ohmmeter Connection:




Action Chart:





2. Check for continuity between terminal 1F of the CPU connector on the joint box and ground.

Step 5
1. Remove the door switches.

Ohmmeter Connection:




Reference:





2. Check for continuity between the terminal of each switch.
3. If correct, repair the wiring harness (CPU-door switch, CPU-door ajar warning light).
4. If not as specified, replace the door switch.
