Differential: Testing and Inspection

PREINSPECTION BACKLASH OF SIDE GEAR AND PINION GEAR
Measure the backlash by the following procedure.
1. Install the left drive shaft and the joint shaft in the differential assembly.
2. Support the drive shaft and the joint shaft on V-blocks.
3. Measure the backlash of both pinion gears.
4. If not within 0.050 - 0.150 mm (0.0020 - 0.059 inch), replace parts as necessary.
