On-Vehicle Replacement
WARNING: Wear eye protection when using compressed air to clean components.PROCEDURE
1. Clean the transaxle exterior thoroughly by using a steam cleaner or cleaning solvent before removal.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Support the engine by using the Special Service Tool (SST).
4. Jack up the vehicle and support it on safety stands.
5. Drain the ATF into a container.
6. Remove the transverse member.
7. Remove the engine mounting member.
8. Remove the oil pan and gasket.
9. Disconnect the solenoid connectors.
10. Remove the bolts as shown in the illustration.
11. Remove the control valve body.
12. Install the control valve body as shown. Tighten to 7.9 - 10.7 Nm (70 - 95 inch lbs.). Bolt length (measured from below the head):
^ Bolts A: 30 mm (1.18 inch)
^ Bolts C: 50 mm (1.97 inch)
13. Connect the solenoid connectors.
14. Apply a thin coat of silicone sealant to both sides of a new gasket.
15. Install the gasket and the oil pan. Tighten to 8.4 - 10.7 Nm (74 - 95 inch lbs.).
16. Install the engine mounting member.
17. Loosely install bolts A and B. Tightening torque:
^ Bolts A: 64 - 89 Nm (48 - 65 ft. lbs.)
^ Bolts B: 38 - 51 Nm (28 - 37 ft. lbs.)
18. Install the transverse member. Tighten to 94 - 131 Nm (69 - 97 ft. lbs.).
19. Remove the SST from the engine.
20. Pour in ATF, and with the engine idling, check the ATF level and check for leaks.
21. Carry out the time lag test and line pressure test.
22. Carry out the road test.
