Brakes - Brake Rotor Grooves

2004 MAZDA3 - BRAKE ROTOR GROOVED

2004 Mazda3, with VINs lower than JM1BK**** 41205671 (produced before July 1, 2004)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience grooves on the front and/or rear brake rotors. The grooves can give a poor appearance. This may be caused by the rotor anti-corrosion coating, which attacks the rotor.

NOTE:
This concern does not affect braking performance or reliability.

The thickness of the anti-corrosion coating has been decreased to prevent the occurrence.





Customers having this concern should have their vehicles repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify concern and note if front or rear axle rotor(s) is grooved.

^ If grooved, Replace rotors and pads (both left and right sides) of the front or rear axle that is affected according to Workshop Manual (section 04-11 "FRONT BRAKE DISC REMOVAL/INSTALLATION REAR BRAKE (DISC) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

NOTE:
Do NOT replace parts of the unaffected axle.

2. After repair, drive vehicle and perform regular braking 35 mph to 0 mph approximately 30 times.

3. Verify repair.
