Shift Cable: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM).
2. Remove the air bag diagnostic monitor and the bracket.
3. Remove the sating rear air bag sensor and bracket; refer to.
4. Remove the gearshift lever knob.
(1) Remove the RH gearshift lever knob screw.
(2) Remove the front gearshift lever knob screw.
5. Remove the transmission control selector dial bezel.
(1) Remove the four screws.
(2) Disconnect the miniature bulb.
6. Remove the gearshift lever cable nut.
7. Remove the two cable floorpan bracket bolts.
8. Remove the two cable bulkhead bracket nuts.
9. Remove the (A) transmission range switch cable nut and the (B) control cable front clamp.
10. Remove the shift cable and bracket from inside the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure noting the following:
- Use Threadlock and Sealer EOAZ-19554-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G315-A5 and ESE-M4G24-A2 when installing the gearshift lever knob screws.
- Adjust the shift cable and bracket as necessary.
- Adjust the transmission control selector dial bezel and then tighten the screws in sequence.
