Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor: Adjustments
CLOSED THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR (APS) ADJUSTMENT(1) Disconnect the accelerator pedal position sensor connector.
(2) Use jumper wire between terminal (2) (closed throttle position switch) on the accelerator pedal position sensor and terminal (1) (sensor ground) to connect a resistance tester.
(3) Insert the tip of a 0.5 mm (.020 in.) feeler gauge approx. 3 mm (.12 in.) between the accelerator lever and the throttle lever.
NOTE:
- If the feeler gauge is inserted deeper than 3 mm (.12 in.), the accelerator lever opening degree will be larger than set, thus resulting in improper adjustment.
(4) Loosen the accelerator pedal position sensor mounting bolt and turn the accelerator pedal position sensor counter- clockwise as far as it will go.
(5) At this time, make sure that there is continuity between the terminals (1) and (2).
(6) Slowly turn the accelerator pedal position sensor clockwise to find the point where there is no continuity between the terminals (1) and (2). Firmly tighten the accelerator pedal position sensor mounting bolt at this point.
(7) Connect the accelerator pedal position sensor connector.
(8) In case of the scan tool, connect it to the data link connector (black) and select "traction control module".
(9) If scan tool is not used. proceed with the following:
(1) Disconnect the connector of the accelerator pedal position sensor, and connect the special tool (test harness) across the disconnect connector parts.
(2) Connect the digital voltmeter across the terminal (3) (sensor output) and the terminal (1) (sensor ground) of the accelerator pedal position sensor.
(10) Turn the ignition switch ON. (At this time, the engine will not start.)
(11) Check the opening degree of the accelerator pedal position sensor.
Standard value: 400-1000 mV
(12) If the standard value is not satisfied, check the accelerator pedal position sensor and related harness.
(13) Remove the feeler gauge.
(14) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
