ADJUSTMENT OF THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
(TPS)

(1) Connect the scan tool to the data link connector (white).
(2) If scan tool is not used, proceed with the following:
(1) Disconnect the connector (white) of the throttle position sensor, and connect the special tool (test harness) across the disconnected connector parts.
(2) Connect the digital voltmeter across terminal (2) (sensor output) and terminal (4) (sensor ground) of the throttle position sensor.
(3) Turn the ignition switch ON. (At this time, the engine will not start.)

(4) Check the output voltage of the throttle position sensor.

Standard value: 580-690 mV

(5) If the standard value is not satisfied, remove the throttle body, loosen the throttle position sensor mounting bolts and turn the main body of the throttle position sensor for adjustment. After adjustment, securely tighten the bolt.

NOTE:
- As the main body of the throttle position sensor is turned clockwise. the output voltage increases.

(6) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(7) If any diagnostic trouble code is output when the throttle position sensor is adjusted, use scan tool to erase the diagnostic trouble code, or disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal for 10 seconds or more and reconnect the cable.
(This will erase the memory of the diagnostic trouble code which resulted from adjustment of the throttle position sensor.)
