Main Bearing Cap Torque Values
TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS
NOTE: Prior to tightening bearing cap bolts, apply new engine oil to bearing surface and shift the crankshaft back and forth to properly seat the bearing cap and the apply new engine oil to the bolt threads and seating surfaces of bearing cap bolts before installing them.
1. Install crankshaft, main bearing caps and beam, then tighten bolts to the specified torque in the numbered sequence shown.
2. Tighten all bolts to 26 to 32 Nm (20 to 24 ft. lbs.).
3. Turn all bolts 75 to 80 degrees clockwise with angle wrench tool No. KV10112100, or equivalent.
4. Loosen all bolts completely.
5. Tighten all bolts to 32 to 38 Nm (24 to 28 ft. lbs.).
6. Turn all bolts 45 to 50 degrees clockwise with angle wrench.
- If an angle wrench is not available, mark all bearing cap bolts on the side facing engine rear. Then, turn each bolt specified degrees clockwise. Confirm angle of degrees with a graduator, not by eye measurement.
7. After securing bearing cap bolts, make sure crankshaft turns smoothly by hand.
CAUTION: When loosening the bearing cap bolts, observe the loosening sequence shown. Loosen the bolts in 2 to 3 steps.
