Wheel Cylinder: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Clean the area around the wheel cylinder inlet, the pilot and the bleeder valve.
2. Remove the brake drum.
3. Remove the brake components, as needed for access.
4. Remove the bleeder valve (1).
5. Disconnect the brake pipe from the wheel cylinder. Plug the opening in the pipe to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
6. Remove the bolts (2).
7. Remove the wheel cylinder (3).
8. Clean the old sealant from the backing plate where the wheel cylinder was removed.
9. Clean the sealant from the wheel cylinder (if the wheel cylinder is to be reinstalled).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Apply Loctite(R) Master Gasket or equivalent to the wheel cylinder shoulder face that contacts the backing plate.
2. Position the wheel cylinder and hold it in place.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the bolts.
^ Tighten the attaching bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).

4. Connect the brake pipe to the wheel cylinder.
^ Tighten the brake pipe fitting (tube nut) to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).

5. Install the bleeder valve.
^ Tighten the bleeder valve to 10 Nm (88 inch lbs.).

6. Install the brake components.
7. Install the brake drum.
8. Bleed the wheel cylinder.
