Subject: NEW PROM AND EGR VALVE FOR 5.0L CFI ENGINE (CODE 7) TO PREVENT "TIP IN" HESITATION ON FEDERAL EMISSION SYSTEMS - 1982 FIREBIRD


If a customer should comment on a "tip in" hesitation with their 1982 5.0L CFI engine, a new ECM calibration PROM, Part Number 1225588, and EGR valve, Part Number 17079818, have been made available to correct this condition. Prior to replacing the PROM and EGR valve, the following checks are to be performed.

1. Disconnect the EGR valve vacuum line at the EGR valve and plug vacuum line.

2. Drive the vehicle and evaluate tip in hesitation.

3. If tip in hesitation persists, refer to shop manual for problem diagnosis.

4. If tip in hesitation is eliminated, replace the calibration PROM and EGR valve with part numbers indicated above.
