Wheel Hub: Service and Repair
FRONT HUB/BEARINGTools Required:
- J 34866 Front Wheel Hub Remover
- J 2619-01 Slide Hammer
- Or Equivalents
REMOVAL
Remove or disconnect the following:
1. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
2. Tire and wheel assembly.
3. Brake caliper, caliper carrier and rotor.
4. Unstake and remove drive axle nut and washer.
5. Hub and outer bearing race from knuckle using Front Wheel Hub Remover and Slide Hammer.
INSTALLATION
Install or connect the following:
1. Apply a light coat of wheel bearing grease GM P/N 1051344, or equivalent, to outside of hub shaft.
^ If replacing wheel hub, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain for outer race removal.
2. Hub and outer bearing race to steering knuckle; tap in using hammer. Place a wood block on the end of the hub to absorb shock from the hammer and to drive the hub into the knuckle evenly.
3. Drive axle washer and nut.
^ Tighten drive axle nut to 175 Nm (129 lb ft).
4. Stake drive axle nut using a hammer and punch.
5. Brake rotor, caliper carrier and caliper.
6. Tire and wheel assembly.
7. Lower vehicle.
