Radiator Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE^ Tools Required
- J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers
1. Remove air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Element Replacement in Powertrain Management - 3.8L.
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Service and Repair.
3. Remove the engine strut brace bolts from the upper tie bar and rotate the strut(s) and brace(s) rearward. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Upper Radiator Support) in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L or Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Upper Radiator Support) in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
IMPORTANT: To prevent shearing of rubber bushing(s) loosen bolt(s) on engine strut(s) before swinging strut(s).
4. Remove the electric cooling fans. Refer to Cooling Fan Replacement - Electric.
5. Remove the upper radiator brackets and bolts.
6. Disconnect the clamp from the upper hose at the radiator using the J 38185.
7. Disconnect the clamp from the lower hose at the radiator using the J 38185.
8. Remove the low coolant module. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
9. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler lines from the radiator. Refer to one of the following:
^ Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Threaded Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T60-E
^ Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Quick Connect Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T60-E
^ Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Threaded Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E
^ Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Quick Connect Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E
10. Remove the radiator.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the radiator to the lower mounts.
2. Connect the transaxle oil cooler lines to the radiator. Refer to one of the following:
^ Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Threaded Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T60-E
^ Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Quick Connect Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T60-E
^ Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Threaded Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E
^ Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Quick Connect Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E
3. Install the low coolant module. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
4. Connect the clamp to the upper hose at the radiator using the J 38185.
5. Connect the clamp to the lower hose at the radiator using the J 38185.
6. Install the radiator brackets and bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
7. Install the electric cooling fans. Refer to Cooling Fan Replacement - Electric.
8. Move the Engine strut(s) to the proper position. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Upper Radiator Support) in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L or Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Upper Radiator Support) in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
9. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Service and Repair.
10. Install the air cleaner and the duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement or Air Cleaner Element Replacement in Powertrain Management.
11. Inspect for leaks.
