Stub Axle Shaft Sleeve Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J 41227 Output Shaft Sleeve Remover





1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the drive axle assembly. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
3. Remove the transmission side cover assembly. Refer to Case Side Cover Replacement.
4. Remove the snap ring from axle.
5. Remove the sleeve from the output shaft. Use the J 41227.
6. Inspect the sleeve for excessive wear, scratches or nicks that may cause a leak or damage to the seal portion. Replace the sleeve if the sleeve appears to be damaged.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

- J 41228 Stub Shaft Sleeve Installer





1. Use the J 41228 in order to install a new sleeve on the output shaft. Ensure that the collet is located in the snap ring groove when installing.
2. Install one new snap ring on the output shaft.
3. Install the transmission side cover assembly. Refer to Case Side Cover Replacement.
4. Install the drive axle assembly. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Inspect the output axle shaft sleeve for leaks.
7. Verify the oil level.
