Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair

ACCUMULATOR REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. Service and Repair
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the positive battery cable nut (1) and cable from the underhood fuse block.




4. Disconnect the evaporator hose from the accumulator cover.




5. Remove the accumulator cover.




6. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut at the accumulator.
7. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.




8. Remove the evaporator hose nut.
9. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator.
10. Remove the accumulator from the housing.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Add the proper amount of refrigerant oil to the accumulator. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities.
2. Install the accumulator into the housing.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT:
^ Inspect the seal washers for damage before reinstalling the A/C lines and hoses.
^ If any damage is noted during inspection, the suspect seal must be replaced.
^ Flat washer type seals do not require lubrication.




3. Install the evaporator hose to accumulator.
4. Install the evaporator hose nut.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




5. Install the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.

Tighten
Tighten the accumulator connections to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

6. Install the accumulator cover.




7. Install the evaporator hose into the retainer.




8. Install the positive battery cable to the underhood fuse block.
9. Install the positive battery cable nut (1).

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

10. Connect the negative battery cable.
11. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. Service and Repair
12. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A.
