Water Pump: Service and Repair

Water Pump Replacement

^ Tools Required
- J 36660-A Torque/Angle Meter

Removal Procedure





1. Open the radiator drain cock.
2. Partially drain the radiator.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Close the radiator drain cock.
^ Tighten the radiator drain cock to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.).
4. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
6. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp at the water pump.
7. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the water pump.





8. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
9. Remove the water pump pulley.





10. Remove the water pump bolts (1).
11. Remove the water pump (2).
12. Remove the water pump gasket (3).
13. Clean and inspect the water pump.

Installation Procedure





1. Install a new water pump gasket (3).
2. Install the water pump (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the water pump bolts (1).
^ Tighten the water pump bolts (1) to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Using the J 36660-A torque the water pump bolts an additional 80°.





4. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the water pump.
5. Position the radiator inlet hose at the water pump.
6. Install the water pump pulley.
7. Install the water pump pulley bolts until snug.
8. Install the accessory drive belt.
9. Tighten the water pump bolts.
^ Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.).
10. Add the engine coolant.
