Muffler: Service and Repair
Muffler ReplacementRemoval Procedure
Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in Service Precautions.
Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove two support hanger retainer clips (1) and two rubber hangers (2) from the support hangers.
3. Loosen two ring clamp fastening nuts (1).
4. Slide both of the rear pipes (2) out of the muffler pipe slip joints.
5. Remove the rear pipe assembly.
6. Support the catalytic converter assemblies and the muffler assemblies with a jackstand.
7. Remove the catalytic converter to muffler flange bolts (1).
8. Separate the catalytic converter and muffler assemblies then remove the flange gasket (2), from the flange joint.
9. Remove four retainer clips (1), and four rubber hangers (2), from the right and left muffler support hangers.
10. Remove the muffler assembly.
Installation Procedure
1. Position the muffler assembly to the vehicle.
2. Support the muffler assembly with a jackstand.
3. Install four rubber hangers (2), to the right and left muffler support hangers and four retainer clips (1).
4. Install a new catalytic converter to muffler flange gasket (2).
5. Install the catalytic converter to muffler flange bolts (1).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
^ Tighten the catalytic converter to muffler flange bolts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
6. Position the rear pipe assembly.
7. Slide both of the rear pipes (2) into the muffler pipe slip joints.
8. Install two ring clamp fastening nuts (1).
^ Tighten the ring clamp nuts to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).
9. Install two rubber hangers (2), to the support hangers and two support hanger retainer clips (1).
10. Lower the vehicle.
