Power Steering Pressure Control Valve: Service and Repair
Power Steering Pump Flow Control Valve Replacement - On Vehicle
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service Intervals).
2. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the right front engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side (Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side).
4. Remove the bolt (2) from the power steering pump outlet pipe bracket.
5. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch the draining fluid.
Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice (Service Precautions).
6. Remove the outlet pipe fitting (1) from the pump.
7. Remove the outlet union from the pump.
8. Remove the gasket.
9. Remove the flow control valve from the pump.
10. Remove the spring from the pump.
11. Inspect the spring. Replace the spring if necessary.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice (Service Precautions).
1. Apply fluid to the spring. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations (Specifications).
2. Install the spring to the pump.
3. Apply fluid to the flow control valve.
4. Install the flow control valve to the pump.
5. Apply fluid to the gasket.
6. Install the gasket to the union.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).
7. Install the union to the pump.
Tighten the union to 69 N.m (50.9 lb ft).
Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice (Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice).
8. Install the outlet pipe fitting (1) to the pump.
Tighten the fitting to 41 N.m (30.2 lb ft).
9. Install the outlet pipe clamp bolt (2).
Tighten the bolt to 7.8 N.m (69.04 lb in).
10. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Fill the reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid (Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid).
13. Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Repair as necessary.
14. Install the right front engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side (Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side).
Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice (Service Precautions).
15. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding (Service and Repair).
