Removing Battery
Danger:
- Do not disconnect battery with engine running.
- Disconnect and connect battery with extreme caution. Risk of short circuit or explosion.
- Do not tilt battery when removing it. Risk of causticization as a result of emerging acid.
- Do not rub battery with a dry cloth. Risk of explosion as a result of static charge.
Information:
- Battery is located at the rear right under the right radiator.
- Switch off all loads and remove ignition key.
- Observe warning notes and safety regulations for lead-acid batteries.
- Remove right rear wheel.
- Remove right rear wheel housing liner.
- The ground point for the battery is located under the rear relay carrier.
1. Disconnect ground connection for the battery.
1.1 Unclip and remove cap.
1.2 Unlock ground connection for battery and pull it off.
2. Removing support strut for side radiator on right.
2.1 Cut through tie-wraps for securing electrical lead to support strut.
2.2 Unscrew three fastening screws -4- for support strut and remove it.
3. Removing battery holder.
3.1 Unscrew the two fastening screws -2- for the holder from the chassis.
3.2 Unscrew both fastening nuts -1- and remove holder.
3.3 Undo fastening screw -3- for battery retaining claw and remove it.
4. Removing battery.
4.1 Remove battery from holder.
4.2 If necessary, use a large screwdriver to carefully lever out battery from the holder.
5. Disconnecting positive terminal.
5.1 Undo screw connection of positive terminal -5- and detach the cable.
6. Disconnecting the negative terminal.
6.1 Pull battery forward about halfway, undo screw connection of negative terminal -6- and detach the cable.
6.2 Pull off vent hose on battery.
6.3 Risk of causticization! Pull battery fully out by folding handles, if possible without tilting, and remove it through wheel housing.
Installing battery
Information:
- Make sure ends of vent hose are routed and connected correctly.
1. Fitting and connecting negative terminal.
1.1 Risk of causticization! Insert battery into battery holder via wheel housing by the folding handles, if possible without tilting.
1.2 Insert vent hose on the battery.
1.3 Fit negative terminal -6- and tighten the fastening nut.
2. Connecting positive terminal.
2.1 Fit positive terminal -5- and tighten the fastening nut.
2.2 Slide battery fully into holder.
3. Installing battery holder.
3.1 Position battery retaining claw and tighten with fastening screw -3-.
3.2 Position battery holder and screw to chassis with the two fastening screws -2-.
3.3 Tighten both fastening nuts -1-.
4. Installing support strut for side radiator on right.
4.1 Position support strut and fasten with fastening screws.
4.2 Lay electrical lead on support strut and fix with tie wrap.
5. Connecting ground connection for the battery.
5.1 Push ground connection for the battery onto mount as it will go.
5.2 Position cap for ground connection and clip into place.
