261020 Removing And Installing Exhaust Manifold

Preliminary work for removing exhaust manifold
DANGER:
- Incorrect raising of the vehicle
- Damage to person or property caused by the car falling down
- Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
- Parts of the exhaust system become extremely hot.
- Danger of burns
- Permanent scarring of the skin
- Do not begin work until the exhaust system has cooled down completely.
- If it is imperative that you work on the hot exhaust system, ensure that you wear fire-resistant and heat-resistant protective gear.
1. Attache car protective covers.
2. Remove rear cover.
3. Remove both rear wheels. Use the specified special tool socket wrench insert 300 to avoid damaging the wheel rims.
4. Remove rear muffler.
5. Remove oxygen sensors.
Removing exhaust manifold
1. Have an assistant hold the exhaust manifold. Unscrew six hexagon-head bolts (M8 x 26) -arrows-.
Screws For Exhaust Manifold:
2. Remove exhaust manifold -3- and manifold seal -2-.

Installing exhaust manifold
NOTE: Exhaust manifold screws must be replaced during installation.
1. Clean sealing surfaces on manifold flange and cylinder head using a brass wire brush for example.
2. Replace manifold seal -2-. Check that it is installed correctly (see graphic).
3. Position exhaust manifold -3-.

4. Position six hexagon-head bolts (M8 x 26) -arrows- by hand and tighten them from the inside outwards. Tightening torque 17 ftlb.

Subsequent work for installing exhaust manifold
1. Install oxygen sensors.
2. Install rear muffler.
3. Fit both rear wheels. Use the specified special tool socket wrench insert 300 to avoid damaging the wheel rims.
4. Install rear cover.
