Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle -> 40 Lifting the vehicle.

The next steps must ideally be carried out in parallel.
2. Remove wheel bearing housing -> 425219 Removing and installing rear wheel bearing housing 425219 Removing and installing rear wheel bearing housing, spreader device (EPB actuator) and brake cover plate. -> 468519 Removing and installing spreader device (EPB actuator) Service and Repair
2.1. Loosen axle nut (drive shaft mounting on wheel side). Operate the brake whilst doing so (a second mechanic is required).
2.2. Remove spreader device, brake cover plate and then the wheel bearing housing.

Pressing out

The bearing is pressed out using the hydraulic or pneumatic press. The accessory for the press is used in the example.
1. Position the wheel bearing housing on the bearing seat in such a way that there is sufficient clearance for pressing out the bearing -arrows-.

2. Carefully press out the bearing using the appropriate ram (accessory for hydraulic or pneumatic press) => Pressing out bearing.

3. Place the wheel bearing housing on a suitable press tool -bottom arrow- in such a way that there is sufficient clearance for pressing in the bearing. Position the bearing and press it in until the pressure increases (end position) using press tool VW 454. Check the pressure gauge!

Subsequent work

Installation is carried out in reverse order.
