SUBJ: Exchange Component Return Routines

Saab Core Consolidation Hubs have been reporting an increase in the number of "problem returns" which they are being forced to handle. The problems range from the use of unacceptable packaging material to unassembled cores.

We need to ensure that returns made as part of the exchange program follow certain routines and that returned cores meet certain standards so that the system will work smoothly. It is not our wish to penalize anyone. However, we reserve the right to debit dealers who have returned unacceptable, unclean or damaged cores. In extreme cases, the core may returned to the dealer at his expense.

As a reminder of the importance of correctly completing the paperwork and returning cores in acceptable condition, and in acceptable containers, we are enclosing two publications:

^ A re-published page from the Parts Manual containing the conditions of core return and the potential consequences to the dealer if the routines are not followed.

^ A special quick reference card outlining the procedures to be followed for core returns. On the reverse of the card you will find the addresses and the phone numbers to be used when inquiring about core returns to the Hubs.

^ Please note that there is a special 800 Hot Line phone number for administrative inquires. A Hub should only be contacted directly when arranging a drop-off of return cores.

Also note the specific addition of the torque converter retainer strap to the list of items which must be properly fitted to ensure full core credit. Not fitting the strap frequently causes damage to the automatic transmission core which may result in its being unacceptable for rebuilding. It is in your own best interest to ensure that this strap is properly used to avoid the unnecessary loss of the core credit.

Please review the enclosures and double check your core return practices against the guidelines and procedures outlined in them. We trust that these clarifications will assist you to promptly and properly return exchange components cores. Contact your District Parts and Service Manager if you have questions.
