Procedure

PROCEDURE FOR RETORQUING STEERING WHEEL NUT





(1) Carefully remove the center cap from the steering wheel assembly. See Figure 1.

NOTE:
On DL models it is necessary to remove a phillips head screw from the back of the steering wheel before removal of the center cap.

NOTE:
On vehicles equipped with tilt steering, perform the following procedure with the steering wheel in the lowermost position.





(2) Using a 17 mm deep socket and a torque wrench, slightly loosen and then retorque the steering wheel not to 29 ft.lbs. (4.0 kg-m). See Figure 2.

NOTE:
Be certain not to over tighten the steering wheel not as stripping of the threads may occur.

(3) Reinstall Center Cap.





(4) Complete the recall completion tag.

(5) Install recall completion tag on driver's door post.
