DATE 05-18-84
APPLICABILITY: ALL MODELS WITH LINE INSTALLED CRUISE CONTROL OPTION
SUBJECT: CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR
THIS SERVICE BULLETIN SUPERCEDES AND CANCELS SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER 15-15-84.
The following Replacement parts are now available for the line installed Cruise Control Actuator.
TESTING PROCEDURE FOR CRUISE CONTROL
CAUTION: DISCONNECT THE ACCELERATOR CABLE FROM THE ACTUATOR BEFORE PERFORMING THIS TEST TO PREVENT THE ENGINE FROM OVER REVVING.
FIGURE 1:
CHECKING THE DIAPHRAGM
1. Start the engine and let it idle.
2. Disconnect the four-pin connector from the Actuator (See Figure 1).
3. Supply a 12V power source to the WHITE/BLACK wire.
4. Ground the BLACK, GREEN, and BLUE/WHITE wires simultaneously.
a). When the BLACK, GREEN, and BLUE/WHITE wires are grounded, the diaphragm should fully contract approximately 40 mm within 3 seconds.
b). Disconnect the three grounded wires and the diaphragm should fully extend itself within 3 seconds.
If the diaphragm does not perform according to the procedure above, follow the steps below to isolate the problem.
CHECKING THE VALVE ASSEMBLY
1. Leave the four-pin connector disconnected (See Figure 1).
2. Supply a 12V power source to the WHITE/BLACK wire.
3. Individually ground the BLACK, GREEN, and BLUE/WHITE wires. Each valve should click when it is grounded. This indicates that the valve assembly is working. Therefore the diaphragm must be replaced.
4. If any one of the three valves do not click, the valve assembly is not working properly and must be replaced.
FIGURE 2:
VALVE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
1. Before disassembly of the actuator case, make sure the outside of the case (actuator) is clean, since dirt and dust particles entering the assembly may cause a malfunction (Refer to Figure 2).
2. Remove two tapping screws holding the valve assembly to the actuator.
3. Remove Valve Assembly, Gasket, and O-Rings.
4. Install three new O-Rings and Gasket carefully to ensure that the assembly will not leak.
5. Install the new Valve Assembly with the cover.
6. Before installing the assembly on the vehicle, check the actuator assembly for proper operation using the testing procedure previously described.
7. Reinstall the accelerator cable.
8. Adjust the accelerator cable after installation.
This procedure can be claimed during the warranty period under operation
