SUBJECT: POWER STEERING GEARBOX ASSEMBLY REPAIR
The Subaru Power Steering system utilizes a rack and pinion gearbox which is hydraulically assisted by an engine driven pump.
It is important that only the proper fluid, ATF Dexron II, be used as the hydraulic fluid for this system.
Should you encounter a need for servicing of the power steering gearbox assembly, be advised that it is not necessary to replace the complete assembly.
Subaru Service Publication, MSA 464, Power Steering Gearbox Diagnosis and Repair Procedures Manual, provides detailed information and procedures for servicing this unit.
