SUBJECT: TURBO TRANSMISSION REMOVAL

Please be advised that the 1984 Service Manual suggests that in order to remove the transmission on all Turbo vehicles, it is necessary to remove the Turbo-Charger. This is incorrect. It is not necessary to remove the Turbo-Charger when removing the transmission on 1984 Turbo vehicles due to the fact that 1984 Turbo vehicles have been modified, relocating the timing cover hole to the top of the bell housing away from the Turbo-Charger (See Figure 1). The timing cover hole is used as access to remove the torque converter bolts.
Removing the Turbo-Charger is necessary when performing a transmission removal on all 1983 Turbo vehicles, since the timing cover hole is located behind the Turbo-Charger and access to the torque converter bolts is hindered.
