1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove console box, scuff plate, front seat, floor carpet, rear heater duct, glove compartment, blower duct, instrument brace and ash receptacle and retainer, Fig. 5.
3. Remove control assembly as previously described.
4. On sedan and wagon, remove radio, air duct No. 1 and air duct No. 2.
5. On hardtop, coupe and liftback, proceed as follows:
a. Remove upper console box and radio.
b. Remove instrument cluster finish panels by pulling top outward and lifting up, being careful to bend lower pawls.
c. Remove combination meter and air duct No. 1.
6. On all models, disconnect heater hoses at heater core.
7. Remove two bolts, nut and screw retaining heater unit and withdraw heater unit toward passenger side.
8. Remove heater core from heater unit.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
