Timing Belt Removal





1. Disconnect cable from negative terminal on battery.
2. Remove RH front wheel.
3. Remove fender apron seal.
4. Remove washer and radiator reservoir tanks.





5. Remove cruise control actuator.
a. Disconnect the accelerator and cruise control cables.
b. Disconnect the actuator vacuum hose.
c. Remove the actuator cover.
d. Remove the three bolts and actuator.
e. Disconnect the wiring connector.





6. Remove power steering pump with bracket.
a. Remove the drive belt and pulley.
b. Remove the three mounting bolts and power steering pump with the bracket.
c. Put aside the pump and suspend it.
7. Remove alternator.
a. Disconnect the connector from the alternator, then remove the nut and disconnect the wire from the alternator.
b. Disconnect the vacuum pump and oil inlet & outlet hoses.
c. Loosen the alternator pivot bolt, adjusting lock bolt and adjusting nut, and remove the alternator drive belt. Raise the engine slightly with a floor jack from underneath enough to remove the pivot bolt.
d. Remove the pivot and adjusting bolts, then remove the alternator.
8. Remove the alternator bracket.





9. Remove the three clips, five bolts, and No. 2 timing belt cover with the gasket.





10. Set No. 1 cylinder to TDC/Compression by aligning the line of the camshaft timing pulley with the top end of the cylinder head by turning the crankshaft pulley clockwise.
11. Remove crankshaft pulley.





a. Using SST 09213-14010 and 09330-00020 or equivalent, remove the set bolt for the crankshaft pulley.





b. Using SST 09213-31021 or equivalent, remove the pulley.





12. Remove the No. 1 Timing Belt cover and belt guide.
13. Disconnect the engine mounting center member and the four bolts.
14. Jack up the engine from underneath enough to remove the weight from the engine mounting on the right side.





15. Remove the RH engine mounting insulator by removing the through bolt, two nuts, and engine mounting insulator.





16. Remove the RH engine mounting bracket by removing the RH mounting bracket from the side on which the alternator was installed.






NOTE: If original timing belt is to be used, draw a direction arrow on timing belt (in direction of engine rotation) and place alignment marks on the sprockets and timing belt as shown in figure above.

17. Remove timing belt as follows.





a. Using a suitable screwdriver, remove tension spring.
b. Loosen No. 1 idler pulley mount bolt.
c. Remove timing belt from engine.





18. Remove camshaft timing pulley by using SST 09278-05412 or equivalent to hold the timing pulley; remove the pulley mount bolt and plate washer.
19. Remove the No. 1 idler pulley.





20. Using SST 09278-05412 or equivalent to hold the drive pulley, remove the injection pump pulley mount nut.





21. Using SST 09213-60017 or equivalent, remove the drive pulley. Caution: The pulley will spring out so be careful not to drop it.
22. Remove the No. 2 idler pulley.





23. Using SST 09213-60017 or equivalent, remove the crankshaft timing pulley.
