THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO THE U.S. AND CANADA

To check the acceleration performance on a diesel engine, use the following procedure:

Tool required: Stop watch.

These test conditions must be followed:

- The vehicle must have at least 3,000 miles (5,000 km).
- Normal curbside weight.
- Normal (summer) tires at the correct pressure.
- Engine at normal operating temperature.
- Dry level test surface.
- The test must be carried out in both directions and at low altitude.

Manual Transmission: Carry out test in 3rd gear

Automatic Transmission: Carry out test in position 2. Do not depress throttle to the floor, otherwise a downshift will occur.

Test:

1. Start normally.
2. At 20 mph (30 km/h) engage 3rd gear and depress the accelerator pedal fully.
3. Measure the time needed to accelerate from 25 mph (40 km/h) to 55 mph (90 km/h).
Acceptable time:

D24 man/aut - 18 seconds

If the test takes longer than specified:

1. Check that the air filter is not dirty (blocked)
2. Check that the fuel filter is not blocked, and that the O-rings are in the correct position; check filter for condensation.
3. Refer to Fault Tracing procedures in Service Manual Engine D24, TP 30420/1 (English), page 179.
