Modified front side members

Rear section

The thickness of the metal used for the rear section of the front side member on 1988 -> 740/760 models has been increased from 2.0 mm to 2.5 mm.

Also on 760 models, the side members have been modified slightly to accommodate the drain hoses from the wiper well. The drilled holes for the hoses are countersunk.

Front section

As a result of the increased weight of the new 760, the following changes have been made.

The thickness of the sheet metal has been increased from 1.6 mm to 2.5 mm. Standard sheet metal is used instead of HSS because HSS is not currently available in thicknesses above 1.6 mm.
NOTE: 1988 740 side member front sections are unchanged. They still use HSS.

CAUTION:
In the event of damage, the complete front part of the front side member should be replaced. It must not be straightened. 740 and 760 parts must not be interchanged.

For replacement of the complete front side member of any 1987 M/Y or earlier 700 vehicle, use the side member for 1988 M/Y 740 only.

CAUTION:
To avoid reducing tensile strength of HSS from over-heating, do not use oxy-acetylene welding equipment. Only MIG or spot-welding equipment should be used.
