OBD System memory cassette for Volvo Scan Tool (VST)
A new memory cassette which permits serial display of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCS) directly from the On-Board Diagnostic System (OBD System) has been developed for North America.
P/Ns: 9511337-9 (English version) and 9511338-7 (French version).
This bulletin provides a general description of the function and use of the new cassette when fault tracing with the VST.
Note:
For further fault-tracing and correction instructions when the OBD System reports a DTC, refer to the appropriate service manual.
Since the control modules for the various systems are designed for manual retrieval of flashing codes, the reporting sequences for each code are relatively long.
However, most of the modules are designed to operate at ten times the normal transmission rate when using the VST.
The program will select a high transmission rate, if available. Activation of a high transmission rate takes approx. 25 seconds. However, only a few seconds are then required to perform other operations. Systems operating at a low rate, on the other hand, can be activated more quickly, but require about 20 seconds for each operation.
The ignition must be switched on during all tests, with the engine stopped in most cases.
In the case of power seats, special procedures are required to start the diagnostic system, depending on the particular model.
The seat cannot be operated manually while the diagnostic system is activated. On conclusion of testing, up to a minute may be required before the seat can again be operated manually. 850: See SB 85-805.
