Hall Effect Sensor: Service and Repair

1. Remove distributor from cylinder head. (Refer to DISTRIBUTOR for specific removal instructions).
2. Remove distributor cap, rotor, and dust shield.

Drive Gear Position:





3. Note position of drive gear off-set in relation to rotor notch in shaft.

Distributor Disassembly:





4. Mount distributor in a soft jawed vice.
5. Tap out drive gear roll pin.
6. Remove distributor shutter/shaft assembly and plastic ring.

Hall Effect Sensor Removal:





7. Place distributor on vice and center-punch hall effect sensor rivets. Drill out rivet heads with 3.5 mm bit. Tap out hall effect sensor.

CAUTION: The metal surrounding the rivets is very thin. Use care when center-punching, drilling, and driving out rivets.

Wire Connector Removal:





8. Remove hall effect lead connector from distributor housing.
9. If lead connector is re-usable, carefully bend cover tabs aside, press down terminal tabs, and remove leads from connector.

Hall Effect Sensor Installation:




Wire Positions:





10. Install new hall effect sensor and connector in position.
11. Support sensor on a suitable punch and peen rivets to secure.

Distributor Reassembly:





12. Re-assemble distributor and install NEW roll pin.
13. Reinstall distributor using new O-rings.
