Installation
Carefully insert new cable under center console Attach cable adjuster to gear selector mechanism using locking clip (1). A10
Note:
Position clip with lip facing downward as illustrated in figure for A12.
Ensure that gear selector lever is in position P. Hook cable onto operating arm in gear selector mechanism (2).
Thread cable under instrument panel and secure with clip A11
Note:
Run cable as illustrated. Ensure that ignition key is turned to I or II. Press cable into ignition switch, ensuring that locking tabs are fully engaged.
Adjust cable A12
Turn ignition key to position 0 and move gear lever to position P.
Adjust cable so that clearance between ball on cable end and operating arm in selector mechanism is approx. 1.5 mm (0.06 in.).
Check key lock function (A13 - A14)
Move gear selector lever to position P A13
Turn ignition key to position I or II and back to O
Key should now be easy to remove from ignition switch. If not, cable is too short. Slacken adjuster slightly.
Move gear selector lever to position other than P A14
It should now be impossible to remove ignition key from switch
If key can he removed, cable is too long. Adjust cable until key cannot be removed.
Note:
On completion of checking/adjustment, recheck that clearance between cable and arm is approx. 1.5 mm (0.06 in.) as per A12.
Install: A15
- instrument and panels on both sides
- carpet
- center console panel
- insulation under instrument panel
- knee bolster. Tighten bolts to 8 N-m (6 ft.lb)
Install gear selector housing and override button A16
Check clearance between override button lever and key lock arm on gear selector mechanism.
Move gear selector lever to position P and turn ignition key to position 0. Override button lever must not be in contact with key lock arm, otherwise cable will be tensioned. Adjust housing to correct as required (see A18).
Check override function A17
Turn ignition key to position I or II and move gear selector lever to position P.
Operate override button. It should now be possible to move lever from position P. If lever cannot be moved, clearance between override lever and key lock arm is excessive. To correct, adjust position of housing as per (A18).
Adjustment of housing position A18
Remove housing and move plastic nut in bracket (B) backward to reduce clearance and forward (A) to increase clearance. Install housing and check override function as above.
Test operation A19
It should now be impossible to move gear selector lever from position P using override button if ignition key is in position 0 or if key is removed.
Install/reconnect: A20
- gear selector panel
- battery ground lead
