Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement
Tools Required
KM-507-C Ball Joint Remover
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle on an alignment rack. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
3. Remove the outer tie rod nut.
4. Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using the KM-507-C .
5. Mark the threads on the inner tie rod in order to aid in repositioning the adjusting nut.
6. Loosen the outer tie rod adjusting nut.
7. Remove the outer tie rod by twisting the outer tie rod off the inner tie rod.
Installation Procedure
1. Reposition the adjusting nut to the marks on the inner tie rod.
2. Install the outer tie rod by twisting the outer tie rod onto the inner tie rod.
3. Connect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice Fastener Notice.
4. Install the outer tie rod nut.
Tighten the outer tie rod nut to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
5. Install the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
6. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment Front Toe Adjustment.
7. Tighten the outer tie rod adjusting nut.
Tighten the outer tie rod adjusting nut to 64 Nm (47 lb ft).
8. Lower the vehicle.
