Transmission Replacement




Transmission Replacement

Tools Required

* J 28467-B (DW117) Universal Engine Support Fixture
* DW 260-010 (DW260-010) Auto Transaxle Support Fixture

Removal Procedure





Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution Battery Disconnect Caution.

1. Position the select lever in the PARK position.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Remove the air filter housing and breather hose.
4. Install the J 28467-B (1).




5. Disconnect the transaxle wiring harness from the transaxle
6. Remove the park/neutral position switch electrical connector. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement Service and Repair.




7. Remove the upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.




8. Remove the left transaxle mounting bracket. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement (2.0L DOHC) Service and RepairTransmission Mount Bracket Replacement (2.5L DOHC) Service and Repair.





Notice: Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Jacking Notice Vehicle Lifting and Jacking Notice.

9. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
10. Remove the front engine crossbar.
11. Remove the impact bar.
12. Drain the transaxle fluid.
13. Remove the oil cooler pipes from the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement Service and Repair.




14. Remove the drive axles. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Inner Joint and Seal Replacement Service and Repair.
15. Remove the flywheel to torque converter bolts.




16. Support the transaxle.
17. Remove the front engine mounting bracket bolts and nuts.




18. Remove the rear transaxle mounting bracket bolts.




19. Using the DW 260-010 (1) or equivalent to support the transaxle assembly




20. Remove the lower engine-to-transaxle bolts.




21. Use the DW 260-010 (1) or equivalent to remove the transaxle assembly.

Installation Procedure

Important: After installing the transmission assembly, the shift adapts must be reset. Reset the shift adapts using the scan tool. Go to Trans Adaptives Reset under Special Functions on the scan tool.





1. Install the transaxle into the vehicle.
2. Use the DW 260-010 (1) or equivalent to support the transaxle assembly.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice Fastener Notice.

3. Install the lower engine-to-transaxle bolts.

* Tighten the lower engine-to-transaxle bolts (1) to 75 Nm (55 lb ft).
* Tighten the lower engine-to-transaxle bolts (2) to 21 Nm (15 lb ft).
* Tighten the lower engine-to-transaxle bolts (3) to 31 Nm (23 lb ft).




4. Install the rear transaxle mounting bracket bolts.

Tighten the rear transaxle mounting bracket bolts to 65 Nm (48 lb ft).




5. Install the front engine mounting bracket bolts and nuts.

* Tighten the front engine mounting bracket bolts (1) to 90 Nm (66 lb ft).
* Tighten the front engine mounting bracket bolts (2) to 80 Nm (59 lb ft).
* Tighten the front engine mounting bracket bolts (3) to 65 Nm (48 lb ft).




6. Install the flywheel to torque converter bolts.

Tighten the converter to flywheel bolts to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).

7. Install the drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Inner Joint and Seal Replacement Service and Repair.




8. Install the oil cooler pipes from the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement Service and Repair.
9. Install the impact bar.
10. Install the front engine cross-member.
11. Lower the vehicle.




12. Install the left transaxle mounting bracket. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement (2.0L DOHC) Service and RepairTransmission Mount Bracket Replacement (2.5L DOHC) Service and Repair.




13. Install the upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.

Tighten the upper transaxle-to-engine bolts to 75 Nm (55 lb ft).




14. Install the park/neutral position switch electrical connector.
15. Connect the transaxle wiring harness to the transaxle.




16. Remove the J 28467-B (1).
17. Install the air filter housing and breather tube.
18. Install and connect the battery.

Important: After installing the transmission assembly, the shift adapts must be reset. Reset the shift adapts using the scan tool. Go to Trans Adaptives Reset under Special Functions on the scan tool.


19. Add the transaxle fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level Inspection Transmission Fluid Level Inspection.
