Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair




Steering Knuckle Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the wheel.
2. Remove the caulking nut and washer.




3. Remove the outer tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement Service and Repair.
4. Disconnect the control arm ball joint.
5. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
6. Remove the detent screw from the brake disc. Remove the disc.




7. Remove the splash shield. Refer to Front Brake Shield Replacement Front Brake Shield Replacement.




8. Remove the front strut bolts.
9. Remove the knuckle, hub assembly.




10. Remove the hub bolts from the knuckle and separate the hub from the knuckle.

Installation Procedure





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice Fastener Notice.

1. Install the hub bolts.

Tighten the hub bolts to 95 Nm (70 lb ft).

2. Install the splash shield and front strut bolts. Refer to Front Brake Shield Replacement Front Brake Shield Replacement.

Tighten the splash shield bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

3. Install the detent screw and disc.

Tighten the detent screw to 5 Nm (44 lb in).

4. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement Front Brake Caliper Replacement.




5. Install the control arm ball joint bolt.

Tighten the control arm ball joint bolt to 110 Nm (81 lb ft).




6. Install the outer tie rod bolt. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement Service and Repair.

Tighten the outer tie rod bolt to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).




7. Install the washer and the caulking nut onto the axle shaft.

Tighten the caulking nut onto the axle shaft to 280 Nm (207 lb ft).

8. Bleed the air out of the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding Service and Repair.
