Transmission Replacement
Transmission Replacement (2.5L DOHC)
Tools Required
* J 28467-B (DW117) Universal Engine Support Fixture
* DW 260-010 (DW260-010) Auto Transaxle Support Fixture
Removal Procedure
Caution:
Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Position the select lever in the PARK position.
3. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery and Battery Tray Replacement Removal and Replacement in Engine Electrical.
4. Remove the air filter housing.
5. Install the J 28467-B (1).
6. Disconnect the transaxle wiring harness from the transaxle
7. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch electrical connector.
8. Remove the clips from the shift control cable. Disconnect the shift control cable from the transaxle.
9. Remove the upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.
10. Remove the left transaxle mounting bracket. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement (2.5L DOHC) Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement
Notice:
Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Jacking Notice Vehicle Lifting and Jacking Notice in Cautions and Notices.
11. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
12. Remove the front engine crossbar. Refer to Engine Front Crossmember Replacement Engine Front Crossmember Replacement in Front Suspension.
13. Remove the impact bar. Refer to I-Beam Suspension Replacement I-Beam Suspension Replacement in Front Suspension.
14. Drain the transaxle fluid.
15. Remove the oil cooler pipes from the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement Service and Repair
16. Remove the drive axle. Refer to Front Drive Axle Inner Shaft Replacement Service and Repair in front Drive Axle.
17. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Replacement (2.5L) Removal and Replacement.
18. Remove the flywheel to torque converter bolts.
19. Remove the rear transaxle mounting bracket bolts.
20. Support the transaxle assembly using DW 260-010 (1).
21. Remove the oil pan flange-to-transaxle bolts.
22. Remove the left lower engine to transaxle mounting bolts from the rear transaxle mounting bracket side.
23. Remove the right lower engine to transaxle mounting bolts.
24. Remove the transaxle assembly.
Installation Procedure
Important:
After installing the transmission assembly, the shift adapts must be reset. reset the shift adapts using the scan tool. Go to "Trans Adaptives Reset" under "Special Functions" on the scan tool.
1. Install the transaxle into the vehicle.
2. Use the DW 260-010 (1) or equivalent to support the transaxle assembly.
Notice:
Refer to Fastener Notice Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
3. Install the right lower engine-to-transaxle mounting bolts.
Tighten the right lower engine-to-transaxle mounting bolts to 73 Nm (54 lb ft).
4. Install the left lower engine to transaxle mounting bolts.
Tighten the rear transaxle mounting bracket bolts to 73 Nm (54 lb ft).
5. Install the oil pan flange to transaxle bolts.
Tighten the oil pan flange to transaxle bolts to 31 Nm (23 lb ft).
6. Install the rear transaxle mounting bracket bolts.
Tighten the rear transaxle mounting bracket bolts to 65 Nm (48 lb ft)
7. Install the flywheel to torque converter bolts.
8. Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Replacement (2.5L) Removal and Replacement.
9. Install the drive axle. Refer to Front Drive Axle Inner Shaft Replacement Service and Repair in Front Drive Axle.
10. Install the oil cooler pipes from the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement Service and Repair.
11. Install the impact bar. Refer to I-Beam Suspension Replacement I-Beam Suspension Replacement in Front Suspension.
12. Install the front engine cross-member. Refer to Engine Front Crossmember Replacement Engine Front Crossmember Replacement in Front Suspension.
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Install the transmission mounting bracket. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement (2.5L DOHC) Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement
15. Install the upper transaxle to engine mounting bolts.
Tighten the upper transaxle to engine mounting bolts to 73 Nm (54 lb ft).
16. Install the clips to the shift control cable and connect the shift cable.
17. Install the park/neutral position switch electrical connector.
18. Connect the transaxle wiring harness to the transaxle.
19. Remove the J 28467-B (1).
20. Install the air filter housing.
21. Install the battery. Refer to Battery and Battery Tray Replacement Removal and Replacement in Engine Electrical.
22. Add the transaxle fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level Inspection Testing and Inspection.
23. Connect the negative battery cable.
Important:
